SQL Server 2012 Best Practices Analyzer

In order to analyze an SQL Server installation this is a very useful tool.

First of all is needed the Microsoft Baseline Configuration Analyzer 2.0

In this download there are 2 versions, 32 and 64 bit; tipically is needed to run MBCA_Setup64_Win8.msi

Done this , can be downloaded the SQL Server 2012 Best Practices Analyzer.

Must be run the 32 or 64 bit version depending on how was installed the Baseline Configuration.

This last download is a sort of addin of the BaseLine Analyzer

In the parameters must be entered the name of the server , but if the name is long more than 16 chars the analisys cannot be performed, so is necessary to define an short alias in the SQL Configuration Manager

With a short name we can configure the analyzer

This is an example of the final report

In my case i can ignore file and backup on same volume (is a virtual machine on a SAN , with a complete backup every night) and the sysssislog table on msdb (is empty and no more used) but i should verify the other items…

This analyzer is a valid help in order to maintain healthy an SQL Server installation.
